Rhum
is the product of fermentation and distillation of sugar cane,
molasses and other products of sugar cane. The origin of the
word is disputed. According to some authors say, stems from the
Sanskrit "Rome" which means "water."
Appeared on the order of the Governor of Jamaica and comes from
"Rumbellium" which means "dizziness,
agitation" alluding to the properties of the nerve drink.
In
the Martinique a water of life produced from sugar cane was
called by Indians "Guildive" from Hill, that means
kill devil. "Tafi", refers to a distillation of the
sixteenth century and its origin from the French corsairs and
sailors.
