La
Chaya (Cnidoscolus chayamansa and Cnidoscolus aconitifolius),
also known as tree spinach, is a sturdy evergreen shrub,
belonging to the family of Euphorbiaceae, native to the Yucatan
Peninsula in Mexico. It resembles in its note to a hibiscus
plant and cassava. It is very popular in Mexico and Central
America since its leaves are used as a cabbage, which are
prepared and cooked like spinach. The raw leaves are toxic.
